Career[edit]

Digital Ethos[edit]

Main article: Digital Ethos

Tobin founded Digital Ethos in 2016, reportedly with an initial investment of £100.[2][3] The agency was based in Oadby, Leicestershire, and offered digital marketing services including search engine optimisation, public relations, social media and web development.[2] By the time of its sale it employed around 50 people and had served clients in 15 countries; clients named in coverage of the deal included the NHS, Flutterwave and JD Group.[1][4]

Digital Ethos grew partly through acquisition. It bought the York start-up View Digital, whose founder Calum Howarth joined to lead a York office reporting to Tobin, and later acquired the Knutsford marketing agency Boxed Red, which it described as its second acquisition.[6][7] The agency was named the UK's fastest-growing agency in 2019 and later achieved B Corporation certification.[1][2]

Acquisition by Cadastra[edit]

In November 2022 Cadastra, headquartered in Porto Alegre, Brazil, announced the acquisition of Digital Ethos as its second purchase of the year, following the Brazilian e-commerce company M3. Cadastra said the deal would strengthen its European base and its foreign-currency revenues.[1] Brazilian trade press reported the price as £8 million, or roughly R$50 million.[3] Moore Kingston Smith and Acuity Law advised Cadastra on the transaction.[4][5]

Tobin remained chief executive of Digital Ethos after the sale.[2][3] The integration, including a rebrand under the Cadastra name as part of its EMEA operations, was completed in 2024.[11][12]

Tobin Capital[edit]

Main article: Tobin Capital

Tobin founded Tobin Capital as a vehicle for minority investments in private companies, and continued to develop it alongside Digital Ethos after the sale.[2] His publisher describes its focus as future-facing ventures in areas including female-led brands, space, sustainability, deep technology and biotechnology.[8] He has also mentored early-stage founders through Virgin StartUp.[2][4]

Unusual Group[edit]

Main article: Unusual Group

Tobin launched Unusual Group in 2025. The company takes minority stakes in independent marketing and creative agencies and gives them access to shared services, operational infrastructure and AI-readiness programmes, with the stated aim of helping founders grow and achieve stronger exit valuations while retaining operational control.[10][13] Tobin has said the idea originated while he was building Digital Ethos.[10]

Agencies announced as early partners included Woya Digital, Yugen Agency, FridaySolved, DesignGuru and Altitude Marketing.[14]

Succeed[edit]

Tobin is chief executive of Succeed, a founder-led M&A firm that advises on buying, selling and merging businesses and on raising capital, with a focus on creative, marketing, MarTech and creator-economy companies. Succeed is a trading name of Unusual Group Limited.[8][16]

A-Frame Venture Studio[edit]

Tobin is a principal of A-Frame Venture Studio, which builds and scales consumer brands focused on health, wellbeing and human connection.[17]

Writing[edit]

Tobin's first book, The Power of Self-Doubt, is due to be published in hardback by Harriman House on 18 May 2027.[8] The book argues that self-doubt can be harnessed as a driver of growth rather than suppressed. It draws on psychology and performance science alongside Tobin's own experience, and is organised around four archetypes he calls the Mouse, the Lion, the Clown and the Elephant.[8]
